Attorney Jessica L. Basso is the founder and owner of Basso Law LLC in Providence, Rhode Island.

For nearly thirty years, Ms. Basso has provided exceptional representation and support to clients throughout Providence and across Rhode Island who have suffered serious injuries or lost loved ones due to another party’s negligent, careless or reckless actions. Ms. Basso handles all aspects of injury claims, from inception through trial. Her extensive trial experience led to her induction into the American Board of Trial Advocates in 2016, which membership requires peer and national election.

During the course of her career, Ms. Basso has recovered more than $25 million in total compensation for her Plaintiff clients. In her earliest days, Ms. Basso worked as an insurance defense attorney in the Providence office of a prominent Boston law firm. This valuable experience provided her with unique insight into the industry and helped her to devise the most effective strategies possible to help her clients obtain the maximum amount of compensation they deserve.

Along with her personal injury practice, Ms. Basso also has extensive litigation experience with land use and probate matters. She also serves as a court-appointed mediator, arbitrator and guardian ad litem.  Ms. Basso prides herself on the long-standing relationships she has formed both within her professional community and with those clients she has served. Ms. Basso finds her greatest reward in being able to help people during some of the direst and most uncertain times in their lives.

A native of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, Ms. Basso earned her Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, in 1993. Knowing that she always wanted to be a lawyer, she then attended DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Illinois, where she obtained her Juris Doctor in 1997. She also received her certificate in Health Law and was a member of the Journal of Health Law.

Highly active in her legal community, Ms. Basso serves on the Board of Governors of the Rhode Island Association for Justice. She is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association, the American Board of Trial Advocates (current Executive Board Member / Treasurer) and the Justinian Law Society of Rhode Island. Finally, Ms. Basso is a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education seminars sponsored by the Rhode Island Bar Association, the Rhode Island Association for Justice, and the National Business Institute and she is a contributor to the MCLE New England Practical Guide to Discovery and Depositions.

Jury returns a verdict of $2.7 million for pedestrian death. Attorney Jessica Basso tried the case in the Kent County Superior Court, securing one of the largest verdicts in recent Rhode Island history.

$2.6 Million – Motor Vehicle Accident

Attorney Jessica Basso secured a $2.6 million settlement for a vehicle passenger injured in a single-vehicle collision.  The matter was resolved expeditiously through mediation, with no prior settlement offers having been extended.

$530,000.00 – Motorcycle Accident

Attorney Jessica Basso secured liability and underinsured motorist settlements for a single individual followed protracted litigation.  This individual was struck by a motor vehicle while operating a motorcycle and suffered multiple, serious injuries.  The matter was finally resolved through mediation after counsel for the Defendant changed hands.

$385,000.00 – Slip and Fall

Attorney Jessica Basso settled a client’s slip and fall matter for $385,000.00 prior to arbitration.  The case involved issues both of liability and coverage, for which Ms. Basso was able to litigate simultaneously and successfully.

$350,000.00 – Slip and Fall

Attorney Jessica Basso secured a $350,000.00 settlement following arbitration on behalf of a woman who sustained knee injuries after falling on ice. Prior to arbitration, the liability insurance company offered the client nothing.

$290,000.00 – Motor Vehicle Accident

Attorney Jessica Basso obtained a $290,000.00 settlement on behalf of a young man who was injured as the result of a multi-car collision. The settlement was offered in the early stages of litigation, without her client having to endure further, protracted proceedings.

$240,000.00 – Negligence Claim

Attorney Jessica Basso obtained a $240,000.00 settlement on behalf of a young man who suffered a crush injury to his foot while on the job.  The settlement was procured through mediation, followed a lengthy period of litigation and arbitration.

$165,000.00 – Slip and Fall

During the course of mediation, Attorney Jessica Basso negotiated a $165,000.00 settlement on behalf of a woman who slipped and fell on ice, sustained significant shoulder injuries. Prior to mediation, neither of the two liability carriers would extend an offer of settlement.

$150,000.00 – Motor Vehicle Accident

Following a contested arbitration, Attorney Jessica Basso obtained an arbitration award of $150,000.00 on behalf of a woman who was injured during the course of a single motor vehicle accident. Prior to arbitration, the liability insurance carrier tried to place blame on an unidentified vehicle as having caused the collision. Attorney Jessica Basso fought hard to prove her case, and was successful for her client.

Will Contest – Prevailing Verdict

Following a five-day trial in the Kent County Superior Court, Attorney Jessica Basso prevailed in allowing the admission of a Will to probate, in the face of claims of undue influence and diminished capacity. In turn, Attorney Jessica Basso allowed the Decedent’s final wishes to be carried out.

Adverse Possession – Prevailing Verdict

Following a three-day trial in the Washington County Superior Court, Attorney Jessica Basso succeeded in challenging claims that her clients’ property could be “taken” by the neighbors by claims of adverse possession and acquiescence.

Land Use / Trespass – Prevailing Verdict

After a five-day trial in the Kent County Superior Court, Attorney Jessica Basso secured a prevailing verdict for her clients who had to be defended against a neighbor’s claims that they were unlawfully utilizing their own property.  As part of her successful defense, Ms. Basso utilized a real estate expert and historian who testified about the validity of old deeds and property boundaries dating back decades to more than a century.
