Bill Sieben is one of Minnesota’s most accomplished trial lawyers, with a distinguished career representing clients in catastrophic personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, mass tort, and complex class action litigation. Over more than four decades in practice, he has secured record-setting verdicts and settlements while earning a reputation for handling some of the state’s most significant and high-profile civil cases. His extensive courtroom experience also provides a strong foundation for post-trial proceedings and appellate matters arising from complex litigation.
Throughout his career, Bill has handled more than 50 multi-million-dollar cases involving motor vehicle accidents, aviation disasters, commercial trucking collisions, defective products, wrongful death, and large-scale class and mass actions. He has frequently been appointed by Minnesota courts to serve in leadership roles in complex litigation, including as co-lead counsel in the landmark Braun v. Walmart class action, which resulted in a $54 million settlement for more than 56,000 employees, and In re: Syngenta, which secured a $360 million recovery for Minnesota corn farmers.
Bill is widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading trial advocates. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), and the International Society of Barristers—among the legal profession’s most prestigious invitation-only organizations. He is board certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the Minnesota State Bar Association and has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America, LawDragon 500 Leading Lawyers, and Super Lawyers, where he was the highest vote recipient among Minnesota attorneys in 2000. He has also been named to the Minnesota Lawyers Hall of Fame and has repeatedly been recognized as one of the state’s leading personal injury attorneys.
A respected leader within the legal profession, Bill has served as President of the Minnesota Association of Justice, President of the Minnesota Chapter of ABOTA, and National President of the ABOTA Foundation. In 2009, he was appointed to Minnesota’s Judicial Selection Commission, where he participated in the selection of 182 District Court, Court of Appeals, and Supreme Court judges. He earned his Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law after graduating magna cum laude from St. Cloud State University and began his legal career on the White House staff of then Vice President Walter Mondale.
