Lola is a highly accomplished first-chair trial lawyer and Partner at UB Greensfelder LLP, where she serves as Co-Group Leader of the firm’s Business Litigation practice. She represents businesses in complex commercial disputes and has extensive experience litigating in state and federal courts on behalf of financial institutions, real estate developers, healthcare organizations, manufacturers, and other businesses. Her practice combines significant courtroom experience with strategic counseling designed to help clients manage sophisticated legal and commercial risks.

Lola handles a broad range of business litigation involving commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, business disputes, and state and federal laws governing business conduct and competition. She has particular experience representing companies facing government investigations and related civil and criminal litigation, advising clients from the investigative and pre-suit stages through contested proceedings. As a former Assistant United States Attorney, she brings valuable government enforcement and litigation experience to complex matters requiring both careful strategic analysis and effective courtroom advocacy.

In addition to her litigation practice, Lola holds significant leadership positions within UB Greensfelder, serving on the firm’s Governing Board as well as co-leading its Business Litigation group. She is also active in the legal community through the Norman S. Minor Bar Association, Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, and National Bar Association.

Lola has received substantial professional recognition, including selection to The Best Lawyers in America and the Ohio Super Lawyers list. She has also been recognized by Corporate Counsel Business Journal among its 50 Women to Watch, by Crain’s Cleveland Business among its Notables in Law, and by Savoy Magazine as one of the Most Influential Black Lawyers in America.

Lola earned her Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 2009 and her Bachelor of Arts from Grinnell College in 2006. She is admitted to practice in Ohio, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

  • Successfully defeated preliminary injunction motion and later prevailed on summary judgment in litigation representing commercial landlord in dispute with an anchor tenant.
  • Represented commercial real estate developer in arbitration related to complex construction dispute and related federal litigation.
  • Represented manufacturer in commercial arbitration related to disputes concerning asset purchase agreement indemnification provisions related to seller’s representations and warranties.
  • Counseled client with international sales and operations in export control and FCPA compliance, including advising on the impact of changing sanctions regimes, OFAC compliance, and compliance processes and procedures; Provided FCPA and export control compliance training to field personnel.
  • Represented client facing criminal and civil claims related to customs investigation. Assisted the client when federal agents arrived with a search warrant and civil pre-penalty notice, creating an action plan for all phases of the investigation, including anticipated litigation and collaborated with co-counsel on the civil penalty component. Resolved the matter without criminal charges for the company or its employees.
  • Represented a client in an internal investigation related to potential document and records tampering allegations by discretely and thoroughly managing all aspects of the investigation, including employee interviews, record reviews, and the final report. Successfully closed the investigation, providing policy changes and recommendations to ensure future compliance and monitoring.
  • Advised client on antitrust and compliance considerations related to trade group involvement and counseled on antitrust and trade law considerations related to joint venture by providing risk mitigation strategies while meeting client’s business objectives.
  • Represents municipal owned utility in significant litigation challenging the municipality’s ability to provide service to extraterritorial customers under the Ohio Constitution.
  • Represented a payment processor in civil enforcement action by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) in federal district court. Though civil penalties were imposed on other defendants, the court struck all causes of action that the CFPB brought against the payment processor defendant.
  • Represented multiple homeowners in claims regarding their right to beach access in a wealthy suburb of Cleveland. Took the case to trial and prevailed on the land-ownership claims.
  • Represented national chain in Ohio-wide litigation regarding effect of newly-passed statute that undercut client’s ability to do business in the state.
  • Represented national retail chain in complex landlord-tenant dispute through trial and appellate proceedings.
  • Represented commercial policyholders against their insurers in negotiations and active litigation in state and federal courts and in domestic and international arbitration. Matters that have involved a range of complex coverage issues including the interpretation of general liability policies, excess policies, commercial crime policy coverage, and bad faith claims.
