James F. Sullivan

Attorney Sullivan is a highly respected Connecticut trial lawyer whose practice focuses on complex civil litigation and product liability matters. Known for his analytical approach, exceptional legal writing, and strategic advocacy, he represents clients in sophisticated civil disputes while also handling appellate matters when they arise. His legal career began with a judicial clerkship for Connecticut Supreme Court Justice Robert J. Callahan, providing a strong foundation in litigation and judicial decision-making.

Throughout his career, Attorney Sullivan has established himself as a leading authority on civil litigation and legal ethics. He has authored numerous publications and frequently lectures on legal ethics, civil litigation, product liability, constitutional law, corporate liability, employment law, and court rule-making. He is the co-author of Connecticut Legal Ethics and Malpractice, the state’s leading treatise on the subject, now in its fourth edition, and has contributed chapters on Connecticut tort and product liability law to nationally recognized legal reference works.

Attorney Sullivan has also played an important role in Connecticut’s legal community. As Vice Chair of the Judicial Selection Committee, he helped evaluate candidates seeking appointment to the Superior Court and reviewed incumbent judges for reappointment and elevation to the Connecticut Appellate Court and Supreme Court. He remains actively involved in the profession through bar association leadership and continuing legal education.

Recognized for his professional excellence, Attorney Sullivan holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, has been selected to Super Lawyers, and is a member of the invitation-only American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). He earned his Juris Doctor, with Honors, from the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Connecticut Law Review. He also holds a Master of Arts from the University of Connecticut and a Bachelor of Arts from Boston College and is admitted to practice before the Connecticut state courts, the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
